I can't get below 2:01:xx on mesa. Can someone help me out and show me what I'm doing wrong?

You're not neccecarily doing anything "wrong"
1. Work on optimization, you're getting things sharp, but not optimizing your drifts.
2. Try and learn double boost. You can have a quicker n2o plan with double boost.
3. You are using your n2o too late before the tunnel.

Yeah, in addition to what Jaguar said:

-some turns drag out (longer than needed) ex. first and 2nd turn
-closer to wall on turns ex. 4th turn
-last n2o after you drift, there's no need to boost off of it, n2o immediately, it will last you to the finish line. This isn't a huge deal, but it will improve your time slightly and also help you in matches. (i'm talking about last lap not first two)

Well at least you can take comfort in the fact that you're soooooo much better than me. I haven't actually technically "finished" a race on that so far. I've only been doing it in multiplayer mode, and always have to retire hahaha. I guess I'd better start practising in Time Trial then...

Oh, and I suppose you could wiggle at the start for faster accelleration.

I do almost the same as you but I get like a 2:09:XX

I won't be learning double boost until next month. Still have to master my drifting lol

Wiggling increases accelleration?!?! LOL o.O

Wiggling gives you to 185 mph. My highest so far is 2:07:XX

I have to blame my teammates for my best time of 2:02, 2 PROTL members run 1:57 and 1:58 and they actually generate team boosts unlike 90% of the people I race with...

It's because they know how to drift right, otherwise they wouldn't be in PROTL.. I've seen their applications, they need to get pretty insane times on z-town, zig zig, and mesa.

Your "record" is a pull record, which isn't the most impressive thing, sorry to say. When you are in any place other than 1st, you get pulled by first place and go faster than normal. It's kart rider's way of balancing the game so people who crashed really badly can still catch up or whatever. If you want to get real records, you have to do them in Time Trial where there is no bumping, no lagging, and no pulling.
